Spring Break Photo Contest

When a great idea gets floated out, we should act on it. At the workout today Greg said we should have a photo contest of the snapshots taken by Tribalistic members' Spring Break adventures while traveling abroad or riding in the park. Take some snaps and submit them to tribalistictriathlonteam@gmail.com. Photos will be judged based on their artistic merit, humour and appeal to the judge's over developed sense of schadenfreude (the act of taking delight in another person's misfortune).

Sunday March 21st

Weather is looking up! The weather will be cool early in the morning but Env. Canada is calling for a high of +7 which is certain outdoor cycling weather.

Plan to start the ride indoors at the usual 9am. If the weather indeed looks up, we will transition outdoors between 10 and 11am. Absolutely no reason to be stuck inside at Pan Am for another weekend!

Either way, the indoor track horseshoe is closed at Pan Am due to a swim meet. Please plan to run outdoors.

Flying with your bike

Please follow this link if you are one of the many people who will be traveling soon to a far off exotic destination with a bicycle. It may save you a few dollars, or just a bit of sanity.

Back indoors March 18 and until further notice

As much as we’ve enjoyed our little respite in March, it looks like the weather will be descending back to normal. Regular indoor workouts at the regular times will resume effective today. If some hardy souls wish to brave the -13 C on Sunday morning for a long ride, I wish you well.
With any luck the weather will look up again soon and we can move back outdoors!

Indoor 20min TT Results from Winter 2010

Follow this link to find our 20min Indoor TT field test results from the 2010 winter. Please keep in mind viewing the results that everyone was on different equipment, thus there is little if any standardization of results between athletes. Results are only valid for the athletes themselves assuming that they followed the same protocols for each TT and used the same equipment.
Of course with the exception of the highly variable training indicators of heart rate, most of this information is now of little use in the great outdoors, but this presents a great opportunity to establish a new set of Outdoor TT Data!!

Bring on the Thursday night TT series!!

Racing Season is Upon Us!

With the spring weather already here (other than a few blips on the calendar that we have learned to expect as Winnipeggers), it's just about time to start turning our attention to the upcoming race season.

April is a great month for honing those running skills. Athletics Manitoba will again be sanctioning a great series of races presented by Puma in Assiniboine Park.

April 11th: Puma 5km run
April 18th: Puma 10km or 5km run
April 25th: Puma 15km or 5km run

Details available at www.athleticsmanitoba.com

As has become tradition for all Manitoba Triathletes, Bird's Hill Park Duathlon Series will begin on Tuesday May 4th. Five races will be presented on 5 consecutive Tuesday evenings by Gord's.

Details will be available on www.triathlon.mb.ca

Spring Break Training in Winnipeg

Jared, Pat and Dave, on the Continent

For those Tribalistic members still interested in getting a few group workouts in over the spring break, Erin and Carly have been working to coordinate a few activities. Over the week of March 27th to April 4th the following events have been planned for club members who plan to remain in Winnipeg:

If the weather is iffy, interested participants can email Carly (carly_steinfeld@hotmail.com) or Erin (dobson_erin@hotmail.com) the day of for confirmation.

Good Friday brick- meet at Bird's Hill Park Chickadee Parking area for 10am.
Brunch to follow around noon-
If anyone is interested in hosting, please let Carly or Erin know. We are looking into the possibility of Pineridge Hollow again as well.

Please check back regularly throughout the week for changes to this update. In case of inclement weather, workouts will revert back to the regular winter scheduled times and locations or email (patrick at ppeacock at shaw.ca) after consulting the blog. Please also read the several blog entries below relating to outdoor ride preparation and daylight savings.

Monday March 15th: Bike, 6pm: Meet at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond. Bike ride will be technical in nature focusing on group riding and bike handling. Ride will stay inside the park. The park roads are currently 80% dry.

Sunday March 21st: Outdoor Long Ride 9am. Meet at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond. Please come fully prepared for a long ride 2-3+hrs. Ride will proceed west towards Headingley, and then St. Francois Xavier. We will work hard to ensure there are appropriate pace groups for all.

Please check back regularly for updates throughout the week if weather begins to looks questionable and for possible updates for March 22nd to March 25th.

There will be no Tribalistic workouts from Saturday March 27 to Sunday April 4th. Regular workouts resume Monday April 5th.

Daylight savings

A quick reminder that the time will spring ahead on Sunday March 14th as Daylight Savings begins. Please ensure you show up for the indoor bike workout on time...If you wake up at 8am and you haven't changed your clock yet, you're already late!

Workout update: For Sunday, if the weather is actually as beautiful as is called for, rather than beating ourselves up indoors for 4 hours, we may shorten the indoor portion of the ride to allow athletes to head outdoors.

Getting ready for the Great Outdoors

With signs of an early spring approaching, please prepare to be heading outside a little sooner than planned if the weather is going to hold, and it's beginning to look like it might! Please follow this link to a document and checklist prepared by Michael for this transition to the great outdoors. This document contains much useful information preparing your bike and how to dress for outdoors.

Follow this link to find information about outdoor cycling etiquette with Tribalistic.

Please check back to the blog regularly over the next few days to check for updates in the schedule that might impact indoor vs. Outdoor riding. In the meantime, please be sure to pull out all your outdoor riding clothing and ensure that your bike is ready for the road!
