What happens in Vegas... stays... at Assinaboia Downs?

On behalf of Greg Edwards who is raising money and fundraising like a madman for his High School Band's trip to Europe.  Anyone who is interested in attending can contact Greg at Edwardss at mymts (dot) net. He will also bring tickets to Saturday's workouts!

We could make it a Tribe event and have a little fun in the process!

Team Photo January 21st and Merchandise Needs Query

Item #1 We Need a New Team Photo

It has been a very long time since we've had a team photo taken. In fact, an article was written about us in Triathlon Canada magazine last year included a photo that was from before I was a member (greater than 4 years old, in other words). Next week being the so-called easy week time trial, seems like the ideal week to take a team photo. So bring your tribe gear and look your best for the photo. We'll do this after the workout so if you cannot make the workout but might show up for the picture, then pop in around 10:30 next Saturday morning (January 21).  In fact, bring extra tribe gear if you have so that those members that don't have any can also be wearing our colours. Obviously we would like as many members in attendance as possible and Saturday workouts are the most well attended.

Item #2 Would You Like Some New Gear?

Not on your bike, on your body.  We may place another order with Champion if there is enough interest. Send me an email and I will keep tabs on club interest. With Champion, the minimum order numbers are reasonably low so we may be able to get away with placing an order even if there isn't a huge demand. Items that may be more popular include jerseys, shorts, singlets but if you have other ideas please let me know.

Email Kim at kimmitchell.11 at gmail.com with your gear requests.

Tribalistic Girls Find Some Snow

Our cabin as viewed from the lake. Full kitchen, Sleeps 5, Hot tub, Fireplace. Awesome
This past weekend, the girls of the Tribalistic Triathlon Team (present and on hiatus) hit the slopes. It was the second annual cross country ski weekend for some of this gang, last year's trip being to Riding Mountain National Park during a snow storm in January, this year we went for Falcon Lake Trails Resort. We had hoped for an Eco-cabin, but even with the call for the weekend going out in October and booking days later, the Eco Cabins were unavailable. Next year we plan even earlier.

The other part of the trip that was a little unavailable was the snow.  Snow is so sparse this year, when we packed up my car it looked like we were traveling for a week preparing for anything. The mountain bikes went on the back, snowshoes were brought, runners, and even one bike and an indoor trainer all in preparation for no skiing. But thanks to snowing all day on Friday, by the time we arrived in Falcon Lake Friday evening, we knew there would finally be some hope of cross country skiing. It was a little thin in places but the skiing felt good. I, for one, forgot how much I missed it.

But the weekend was not to be outdone by great company, good conversations, and the best homemade pizza ever!

Thanks to Sophie, Dayna, Margaret, Lesley (not a member but maybe we can talk her into it), Me (Kim), Carly, and members on Hiatus, Erin (with one future Tribe member on board) and Jenn H for a great weekend. The weekend will happen again and if anyone else is interested in joining us please feel free to let us know at any time and we'll make sure you are included in next year's plans.

Here are some pictures from Kim or Carly's Camera (iPhone camera's mostly)

Saturday Swim Session

Thank you for coming out for the final day of the Tribalistic Triathlon Team Winter Training Camp.  As advertised, this camp was about learning rather than about fitness.  We hope you all have some new ideas, tips and tricks to carry with you into the new year.

Tribalistic is still accepting members for the 2012 season.  Please contact us or check the google calendar on the right column of this page for workout times.  The first week of training is free for all new or potential members to try out a variety of evenings and workouts.

With the help of Chris Graham, we've got the videos from the Saturday Swim Session now posted on Youtube.  We sincerely hope the session although rushed was useful.  Please follow the links below to view.

Group 1: Guest athletes
Group 2: Tribalistic Members and family

Anyone who wanted a second taping after discussion: Group 3

Here are a couple of example videos of Patrick and Chris in the pool.  Please keep in mind that they are good swimmers and can demonstrate good technique, but they are both still working to improve.  Additional great videos can be found by searching through the Youtube database.
Example 1 - Side Profile
Example 2 - Head on Profile

Below is a sample list of some things to look for in each video:
- Minimal or no bubbles on entry
- Good extension on every stroke
- Good upper body roll
- Steady kick from the hips
- High elbow through the stroke
- Neutral head position

Chris and Patrick are currently in the planning stages for a swim specific filming and technique clinic to be conducted in late January or February.
